How many % of daily required omega fats are there in a Twenny Bar?
|Bar||g Omega 3 per 100g||g Omega 3 per bar|
How many % of the DRI is this? And what about Omega 6?
Are these values for ALA?
Chocolate bar: 0,29 gram omega 3 and 0,62 gram omega 6
Vanilla bar: 0,78 gram omega 3 and 1,65 gram omega 6
(the omega 3 and 6 comes from rapeseed oil in the form ALA and LA, which is converted in the body to final forms omega 3 and 6)
The DRI is set on 0,250 gram of omega 3 per day according to the WHO report from 2007.
yes ALA from the ingredient rapeseed oil.
DRI is for EPA and DHA. DRI is set to 250-2000mg byWHO.
“The higher value 2%E (ALA) plus n-3 long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) (AMDR 0.250 g – 2.0 g) can be part of a healthy diet”
"For adult males and non-pregnant/non-lactating adult females 0.250 g/day of EPA plus DHA is recommended, with insufficient evidence to set a specific minimumintake of either EPA or DHA alone; both should be consumed. For adult pregnant and lactating females, the minimum intake for optimal adult health and fetal and infant development is 0.3 g/d EPA+DHA, of which at least0.2 g/d should be DHA. "
In fact, the National Institute of Health states the adequate intake of omega-3 (in ALA) at 1.6g for male and 1.1g for female.
The discrepancies between the EPA+DHA to ALA comes from ALA having a poor conversion rate to both EPA and DHA, which are the benefitial fatty acids. In fact conversion rates to EPA vary from 8-21% and to DHA 4-9%.
So, I would say that with the values given:
0.29*5=1.45g of ALA with 5 Twennybars, it is just below of the lower recommendations.
Many thanks for elaborating on this matter, the feedback is much appreciated! We are aware of the current levels and I can already tell you that the new upcoming vegan Twennybar will have a much better omega content!
