I’m a former Soylent customer getting ready to try Plenny for the first time. The ingredients look great - better than Soylent. I’m going to start with Plenny Active, which I’ve heard is closest to the texture of Soylent powder.
For those of you who have tried Soylent, how do you think I might feel about the texture of Plenny? Will I find regular Plenny more grainy than the Active, or will both formulas to be smooth enough if I use a blender? One thing I do like about Soylent powder is the texture.
Love the customer service from Jimmy Joy so far, and how quickly my emailed question received a friendly response. The community on this forum is outstanding, too. Really looking forward to trying my first shake.
You will most likely find it a bit more grainy as we have oats as our base. You can let the shakes sit for a few hours before consuming. Using a blender might also help it a little. Please make sure to give it a shake beforehand as we dont use thickeners. So some splitting between the water and the ingredients does happen.
Welcome! I should preface that I have never tried Soylent. On taste and texture I definitely prefer the regular Plenny shake, but I do also consume some Active to go with my workouts. The Active doesn’t thicken up as much and also needs more water to dissolve fully. Chalkier in taste as well. In either case I recommend shaking WELL for 10 seconds before letting it sit for at least 10 minutes. This allows the oats to absorb the water and really helps the texture, especially with the regular shake. The Active seems to benefit less. I also prefer putting it in the fridge for this as the cold helps the flavour for me, but you may prefer room temperature.
Thanks to you and to Nino for your very helpful replies!
I’ve taken the plunge and placed my first order. I’m getting regular Plenny in chocolate and vanilla, and Plenny Active in chocolate. I thought that I should try both formulas to see which one I like best.
I’m going to try the same method I use with Soylent: Mix it in a blender and leave it in the refrigerator overnight. I might tinker with the flavoring, too. With Soylent original flavor, I substitute an ounce or two of freshly brewed coffee for some of the water, and add a 1/2 teaspoon of cocoa powder. I’m going to try this with Plenny vanilla.
I’ll report back once I’ve had my first few shakes.
